Hand block printing

Every motif is printed by hand, not by machine or digital printer. A wooden block is pressed onto the cloth with dye, one impression at a time, block by block across the saree.

Because each motif is pressed by hand, slight variations in the print are expected. They are the mark of hand printing, not flaws, and no two sarees are exactly alike.

Flowers after the rain

Neeliyamari draws from the small things that stay behind after a walk through Kerala — fallen flowers pressed into the paths, colour softened by the earth around them.

The saree is woven in Kuthampully handloom cotton, with an indigo ground and a gold kasavu border. Its hand-block printed motifs bring the quiet irregularity of pressed flowers to the drape, giving the deep blue a softer, more tactile character.

A saree with enough presence for an occasion, but easy enough to live in beyond it.
